Outpatient hospice initiative in Westerwald launches new training course for volunteers

Are you considering volunteering to accompany people at the end of their lives? But you don't know whether you can accompany seriously ill or dying people at home and in the final stages of their lives? Then it is important to deal with the issues of illness, dying, death, and grief.

In our courses, we impart qualified knowledge on how to provide good and loving support to people who are at the end of their lives. We are offering a new qualification course, "Learning to accompany the dying," which begins on April 24, 2026, at our location in Rennerod.

What you can expect:

100 hours of theoretical instruction

once a month on a Friday evening and all day on a Saturday

and 20 hours of practical work experience, we prepare you for voluntary work.

The course content is closely aligned with the guidelines of the German Hospice and Palliative Care Association and deals with the topics of dying, death, and grief. Communication training, palliative care, legal aspects such as living wills, health care proxies, and much more.

If, after completing the qualification, you decide that you would like to put your newly acquired skills to use in a voluntary capacity, we would of course be delighted to welcome you to our hospice initiative.

If you are interested and would like to register, or if you have any questions, our coordinator Christiana Lerner will be happy to help you!
