One Million Euros for Heat Protection: EVIM Takes Action Now
EVIM is allocating a special budget of one million euros from its own funds to better protect clients and employees from rising temperatures. The Board of Directors is thus responding decisively to the growing number of hot and very hot days and investing where urgent action is needed.
Rising temperatures and longer heat waves are also becoming an increasing burden for social service agencies. In particular, people who rely on support due to their age, an illness, or a disability can be severely affected by high temperatures. At the same time, the increasing number of hot days also places a considerable strain on staff members.
The EVIM Board of Directors is therefore convinced that necessary improvements to heat protection cannot be postponed indefinitely. In consultation with EVIM gGmbH, the Board has approved a self-financed special budget of one million euros.
EVIM Invests Using Its Own Resources
Another factor behind this decision is that necessary structural measures for heat protection, in particular, have not yet been adequately funded by the responsible funding agencies. The positive financial results of recent years enable EVIM to take action on its own now and invest specifically in protecting the people in its facilities and services.
“We see the health risks posed by increasing heat very clearly. That is why we have decided to allocate one million euros from our own funds and invest it where the need is greatest,” said Jörg Wiegand, Chief Financial Officer.
Identifying Needs and Implementing Targeted Solutions
The special budget is earmarked for both passive measures to reduce heat in buildings—such as additional shading—and active cooling solutions.
Facility Management is determining which measures are particularly urgent at which locations as part of its ongoing business planning. This assessment forms the basis for prioritization as well as for economically sound procurement and implementation.
With this special budget, EVIM is taking responsibility and leveraging its own financial resources to respond concretely to the consequences of increasing heat.
