Schlocker Cup: When the Ball Rolls at EVIM
It’s not just the World Cup where a coveted trophy is at stake. At EVIM, too, people compete for the Schlocker Cup year after year—though with an extra dose of team spirit, good cheer, and plenty of enthusiasm for the game. This long-standing tournament at the Schlockerhof in Hattersheim brings together employees and clients from various departments. Winning is great—but playing soccer together is even better.
And yet this year’s tournament could have almost literally been washed out. After weeks of record-breaking heat, the skies opened up during the tournament week of all times. As late as the day before, it was unclear whether the field would even be playable. But after inspecting the field, the organizers gave the green light—and just in time for kickoff, the sun even came out again. What more could a soccer fan ask for?
Eight teams took the field divided into two groups—including two teams from youth services and teams from senior care, volunteer services, the community kitchen, the rehabilitation workshop, as well as the Schlocker Old-Timers and the Schlocker Kickers. In thrilling matches, players fought for every possession without letting fairness or the good atmosphere fall by the wayside. Referee Kevin Eilers, a certified youth referee working in an off-site job through the “Startklar” program, officiated the games with confidence.
The final pitted the Schlocker Altstars against the Senior Care team from the Wichernstift. After a hard-fought match, the Wichernstift senior care team took home the coveted “Pott”—a 1-0 victory was enough to bring the Schlocker Cup back to the Wichernstift once again.
Once again, Stefanie Korte from the Schlockerhof Nursery—who pulled all the organizational strings—ensured that everything ran smoothly in the end. “The battle for the Schlocker Cup offers an opportunity to connect on a different level outside of work—through games, fun, and good entertainment,” she says. A small catering spread, granola and energy bars, and a performance by the Schlocker Tigers during halftime helped create the perfect tournament atmosphere.
And perhaps the tournament was just the start of something more: Philipp Krug from the service kitchen spontaneously suggested that they meet regularly after work in the future to play soccer together. The idea was very well received. There’s really only one wish left for Stefanie Korte: “Maybe next year there’ll be a few more fans on the sidelines cheering on the teams.” They’d certainly deserve it. (hk)
