Quartier Selters / Westerwald

Neighborhood Project Westerwaldkreis

An initiative launched by EVIM Altenhilfe, the Else Schütz Foundation, and the town of Selters with two main focuses:

Aging well in Selters – intergenerational offerings to improve the lives of older people in Selters. Promoting migration – intergenerational offerings to foster open coexistence among the more than 30 nations represented in the town.

Working together for a strong community

The Selters neighborhood creates a vibrant community with intergenerational offerings. Older people receive support in their everyday lives, while intercultural coexistence among more than 30 nations is actively promoted. Networking among citizens, associations, and institutions strengthens cohesion and improves the quality of life for everyone.

Costs & Admission

The initiative will initially be funded for three years by the German Aid Foundation, the Else Schütz Foundation, and EVIM gGmbH.

Networking, shaping, growing together

The neighborhood managers, Ms. Schmitz-Buchholz and Mr. Voss, coordinate the efforts of various stakeholders in Selters. They develop new services that residents need and work to ensure their long-term operation through volunteers. A newly designed “Treff am Markt” is intended to bring together the municipal association’s advisory services, the counseling and coordination center (care support center), and the neighborhood management under one roof, with ample space for various programs and services.

Ms. Schmitz-Buchholz brings different generations together in Selters. She also works at the local senior center, which gives her insight into what’s happening in Selters. Mr. Voss develops and coordinates intergenerational programs for and with people from immigrant backgrounds. Through the work of these two neighborhood managers, the goal is to help people in Selters connect with one another and to provide opportunities for a good life in the community.
