Schlockerhof in Full Bloom: Event Delights Young and Old
The traditional open house at the Schlockerhof Nursery, run by EVIM Teilhabe, once again demonstrated why it has long been a must-attend event for many. As soon as they stepped into the greenhouses, visitors were captivated by the impressive variety of flowers and plants—a colorful selection just waiting to bring gardens, flower beds, and balconies to life.
This year, the event featured an expanded program—and it was a huge hit. Over 600 guests came to Hattersheim on Saturday and enjoyed a varied program for the whole family. “Many young families came to visit us and not only took advantage of the day to do their shopping, but also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere,” reports Stefanie Korte, coordinator of the garden center.
Relaxed exploration
The chill area, where visitors could make themselves comfortable on lounge chairs, was particularly popular. A small animal enclosure with lambs made children’s eyes light up and also offered fascinating insights into wool and its uses—including in the garden. While the youngest guests took over the bouncy castle, the adults took the opportunity to explore wild perennials and special plants in the outdoor area.
The event also had plenty to offer in terms of food: from the barbecue stand and the café at “Grüner Daumen” to tastings from the kitchen and farm shop, there was something for every taste. In keeping with Mother’s Day, the on-site bakery delighted visitors with a heart-shaped strawberry-rhubarb cake. Homemade cookies and vegetarian pretzel snacks were equally popular.
The wide selection of plants left little to be desired—from ice begonias and geraniums to wild herbs and special seedlings with evocative names like “Yellow Trunk,” “Red Marble,” or “Purple Luzie.” Thanks to expert advice from the nursery team, all visitors found the right plants for their homes. The soil analysis was also well received: Many guests brought samples from their gardens and took advantage of the personalized consultation. A garden flea market drew great interest. The bike repair shop at Schlockerhof also focused on sustainability and offered refurbished used bikes at attractive prices.
Expanded concept paid off
Despite the large crowds, the atmosphere remained relaxed throughout. Even at the checkout counters, visitors showed patience and good spirits. “It was wonderful to see how understanding and positive everyone was,” said Stefanie Korte. By the end of the day, some highlights were completely sold out—including the popular “Schlockerkruste,” the bread from the on-site bakery. Meanwhile, the service kitchen continuously restocked the tasting stations, and in the chill area, guests easily struck up conversations.
Conclusion: The event day at Schlockerhof was an all-around success. The expanded concept was very well received and turned the day into a lively gathering place for gardening enthusiasts, families, and everyone who appreciates the special atmosphere at Schlockerhof. (hk)
