Quartier Selters / Westerwald
An initiative launched by EVIM Altenhilfe, the Else Schütz Foundation, and the town of Selters with two main focuses:
Aging well in Selters – intergenerational offerings to improve the lives of older people in Selters. Promoting migration – intergenerational offerings to foster open coexistence among the more than 30 nations represented in the town.
Working together for a strong community
The Selters neighborhood creates a vibrant community with intergenerational offerings. Older people receive support in their everyday lives, while intercultural coexistence among more than 30 nations is actively promoted. Networking among citizens, associations, and institutions strengthens cohesion and improves the quality of life for everyone.
Costs & Admission
The initiative will initially be funded for three years by the German Aid Foundation, the Else Schütz Foundation, and EVIM gGmbH.
Networking, shaping, growing together
The neighborhood managers, Ms. Schmitz-Buchholz and Mr. Özen, coordinate the work of the various stakeholders in Selters. They ensure that new services needed by citizens are provided and oversee their long-term organization by volunteers. A newly designed "Treff am Markt" (market meeting place) is intended to combine the municipal association's advisory services, the advice and coordination center (care support center), and neighborhood management with a large space for services.
Ms. Schmitz-Buchholz connects the generations in Selters. She also works at the local senior center, which gives her insight into what is happening in Selters. Mr. Özen creates and coordinates intergenerational activities for and with people with a migrant background. The work of these two neighborhood managers aims to bring the people of Selters closer together and offer them opportunities for a good life in their community.
